Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings
Curriculum includes: Fill in the blank chapter reviews that check and aid in comprehension and provide valuable review for unit tests Suggested writing assignments that are keyed to what the student is learning and give practice in new writing concepts. Vocabulary worksheets increase language skills. Students are introduced to over 600 words in the course of this study and are tested on over tested on over 400 of them. Over 60 chapter study notes introduce literary terms in a purposeful way and give the student fascinating background information about the story, and a glimpse into the author's thought processes during the creation of the novel. Units Studies introducing important literary concepts that need to be covered more thoroughly, such as genre, setting, linguistics, unifying elements and poetry scansion and analysis. Other Units Studies introducing ancient classic literature such as Beowulf, the Arthurian Romances (including Sir Gawain and the Green Knight), and the ancient classic epics. Glossary of over 600 vocabulary words introduced in the curriculum. Eighteen reproducible vocabulary quizzes and answer keys (answer keys are not reproducible). Six reproducible literature unit tests and answer keys (answer keys are not reproducible.) Simple dictionary of over 130 literary and rhetorical terms taught in the curriculum. Map and chart exercises provide practice helpful for achievement test preparation. Character-building emphasis is stressed throughout, presenting the story in the light of such positive qualities as friendship, sacrifice, courage, honor, and cooperation between cultures. Research project teaching students to use an appendix, genealogical tables, and chronologies.
