BT- Tollbooth
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster (ages 8+) $6.50According to my nine-year old, this is the best book he has ever read. Milo is an ordinary boy who is bored with life when he comes home one day to find a small car and a mysterious tollbooth in his room. One a whim, he drives past the tollbooth and enters a new kingdom whose two kings (brothers) are have not spoken in many years. One is the king of Dictionopolis (the kingdom of words) and the other is the king of Digitopolis (the kingdom of numbers). The long argument stems from a fight over which is more important. Since twin sisters Rhyme and Reason have left the Land of Wisdom, chaos prevails and all sorts of kooky adventures occur. Can Milo and his new friend, the Watchdog, rescue Rhyme and Reason and restore order to the land before it is too late? Great as a read along book because older kids and adults will catch many hilarious plays on words that little ones miss.

BT- Elyon Trilogy by Patrick Carman
The new Land of Elyon Series is one of the most exciting finds this year, especially for the fantasy lover who happens to be a Christian . This adventure-packed story of 12-old Alexa's unusual destiny is reminiscent of the Chronicles of Narnia in the subtle way it combines wholesome (and even biblical) truths and solid story telling. Book are also sold individually below, but once you read one, you will want the whole set! Lovely hardcover editions. For more information on this series, see individual titles below.
$31.00

But her curiosity and desire for adventure lead her to more danger than she bargained for. In the course of her explorations, she discovers both a new power and a new responsibility that puts the fate of the Land of Elyon in her hands.HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED.

BT- Elyon 2
Beyond the Valley of Thorns by Patrick Carman $10.50Alexa discovers new challenges and new enemies as she and her unlikely band of friends seek to defeat even greater evils. This book brings unexpectedly brings in biblical allusions that recall the way that Lewis wove truth into his own tales.
The second in the Land of Elyon series ($11.95 retail HARDCOVER)

BT- Elyon 3
The Tenth City by Patrick Carman $10.50 Alexa is pitted against her foes (and the foes of the Land of Elyon) in a final battle of mythic proportions. But as she weighs the sacrifices and her own strange role in the fate of her world, she begins to wonder at the meaning of it all. This book is a powerful testimony to the power of love and sneaks in larger truths in a subtle way.One of my favorite quotations: "I was seized by the power of a great affection... Elyon has only one hope for us, Alexa. That we would know that he loves us. Do you understand? The one who made you, the one who made everything... He loves you. And more than that, there is nothing you or I need to earn his reckless affection for us... To live boldly for that kind of love is the least that I can do."
The third in the Land of Elyon series ($11.95 retail HARDCOVER)

BT- Redwall
Redwall by Brian Jacques (Ages 12+) $7.99Review From
Publishers Weekly
"Only the lost sword of Martin the Warrior can save Redwall Abbey from the evil
rat Cluny and his greedy horde. The young mouse Matthias (formerly Redwall's
most awkward novice) vows to recover the legendary weapon. In the course of his
quest, Matthias forges strong ties with various local animals. As much as the
magic of the sword, it is the help of these new friends that enables Matthias to
defeat Cluny once and for all. Jacques's clever use of detail creates an animal
world as compelling as that of The Wind in the Willows... This epic adventure
contains elements of all grand quests, with heroic archetypes that will keep
fans of Tolkien and King Arthur tales engaged to the final battle."- Review by
Publishers Weekly
This was the first of the Redwall Books written in the Redwall Series, a favorite with many homeschoolers, especially boys. Now the series includes several prequels and sequels. We hope to have these in stock later.

BT- Goblin The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald (Ages 10+) $3.99
"Considered by W.H. Auden to be "the only English children's book in the same class as the Alice books," The Princess and the Goblin is a classic example of nineteenth-century children's literary fairy tales. Both this tale and its sequel, The Princess and Curdie, follow in the tradition of the folk tales of Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, yet also impart to the reader a sense of MacDonald's personal vision and unique style." (publishers summary) Written by preacher and scholar George MacDonald, a major influence on C.S. Lewis.

BT- Curdie The Princess and Curdie by George MacDonald (Ages 10+) $5.99

The Light Princess by George MacDonald (Ages 10+) $6.95Considered by many to be one of MacDonald's best, this fairy tale about a princess cursed with lightness

D- Beasts The Book of Beasts: Being a Translation from A Latin Bestiary of the Twelfth Century- $11.99
Have you ever wondered why so many fantasies contain mention of phoenixes and hippogriffs,
manticores, and griffins? Did the authors make up these creatures? Hardly!
They came from the medieval world in which many of the fantasies are set.
This 12- century bestiary was originally written by a 12th- century Catholic monk
who detailed the "scientific" knowledge of the animals of his day and added
interesting spiritual lessons to be drawn from the beasts. T.H. White, author of
"The Once and Future King," translated this work and adds comments of his own. Of course,
we now know that many of the creatures in this book are fantastic,
but it still makes interesting reading and gives insight into the medieval mind, and may inspire some stories of your own!.
For older students as it contains frank references to animal husbandry topics such
as reproduction that may confuse (or alarm) a young reader. 296 pages. Paperback.

D- Alice
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll $3.00This classic tale relates the adventures of Alice and her encounters with the Mad-hatter,
the Cheshire Cat and the autocratic Queen of Hearts (among others). Written by an mathematician
from Oxford University, this is a must-read for the well-read child, since so many allusions
spring from it. Contains 42 original illustrations by John Tenniel.
160 pages. paperback.
